In his latest series of works, Carlo Alberto Rastelli directs the gaze of his painting towards the iconographic heritage of the social history of the last century. The subjects are taken from old photographs and visually translated into oil and acrylic. Here, we are in Woodstock, in 1969. What traces of memory are left of the period that wanted to change the world by bringing imagination to power?
How does the present take possession of history? Rastelli's work encounters this theme, oscillating between enthusiasm and a memory that dissolves and misleads: the figures represented are censored by perspective breakthroughs that open a window onto deep skies, stars, galaxies and black holes. The title of the work, however - "Mind's Eye" - is also the title of a song by musical group Wolfmother, whose sound recalls the legacy of the rock bands of the sixties and seventies. The theme Rastelli is approaching, generally speaking, is that of Time: so even the support on which the work is made, the fir tree wood, shows its veins, marking the years of life spent by the plant.
